Bathroom Remodel

We decided to remodel the hallway bathroom this weekend. The house was built in 1984 and the bathroom hasn't been updated since so it's due for a facelift. The previous owners replaced the vanity top with a new one which is the only thing that's been changed. The vanity is 48 inches wide and crowds the room so we're going to replace it with a smaller version as well as replacing the toilet with a more modern version that uses less water.

Pulling the tile out turned out to be easy, I smashed one in the corner with a hammer and used a pry bar to pop the rest of them up; total time about 2 hours. The trickiest part of the demo turned out to be the vanity. When the floor was put in originally, the builder used some kind of concrete underlayment seen in the photo below.


There are two layers of the original backing. Unfortunately, they put the vanity in and then laid down the backer for the tile.
